My first Beauty photo shoot

This past Sunday I had the chance to do my first Beauty/Portrait photo shoot with Terry as a Make Up Artist, whom I can say is quite talented. Since she is just getting started in the “online world”, the goal of this shoot was to create a set of portfolio photos to showcase Terry’s make-up skills and my photographic skills. And of course to make three beautiful girls look even more beautiful in the photos.

Before the shoot, I needed to think it through – location, gear, lights, background. After the break you’ll find more details.

An early spring day in New York

I’ve met Ya Yun a few months ago, and I approached her asking if she would like to model for me as I was building a portfolio. She was kind enough to agree. However, since the weather was not favorable for an outdoor session and we both had quite hectic schedules, we weren’t able to match our schedules for a long time.

But last week, I asked her if she would like to model for another project of mine. She said yes, but unfortunately, the schedules didn’t match, yet again. Still, we decided to use the Saturday (my other photo shoot was Sunday) to go out in the city and do an urban portrait session. The weather was perfect – it was sunny and unusually warm for a March day in New York.

4th Street Art – Chili cook-off

After the Chinatown parade on Sunday, the group split – I guess that since the wait for the parade was longer than the parade itself, the people in our group were a bit worn out. But, as I was talking to Mike, he said something about doing some work for some friends of his, and I asked if he needs an extra ‘tog. Mike being a nice guy, said yes, so we went together to that event.

I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t even realize what kind of event it was until I got there – all I knew is that  it was an indoor event, and as for all indoor events, lighting is bad.

More after the break…

Goodies

The title may be misleading, as it’s just one goodie – I finally received the off camera flash cable i bought from eBay.

You may ask “what’s so special about a damn OC flash cable, especially when you have a camera with a built-in flash commander?”

The answer is quite simple. First – it’s a 33ft long cable (yes, 33ft). Secondly, it’s much cheaper than buying any kind of reliable wireless flash triggers, which I would need when I will get the Wescott Apollo softbox. Besides, I can relax a bit and not care so much about line of sight when I use it (as opposed to using the built in flash commander)

I will post ASAP a picture of Miyah that I took today, using the OC flash cable.

Edit: here is the picture

Some technical data: 7D, 17-55 2.8@ f/8, 1/250, ISO400, 580EX II off camera with Honl 1/8 Speed Grid
